Industry-leading assurance

The construction industry is one of the most highly regulated industries in the United Kingdom, governed by a host of legal instruments, regulations, standards, codes of practice and accreditations.

There are approximately 3,500 British and ISO standards within the construction industry, with more than 400 references to standards in the current Building Regulations and more than 300 standards referenced by the Construction Products Regulation.

Designers, contractors and developers are under constant pressure to deliver buildings that meet these requirements as well as being safe, comfortable, functional and affordable. This pressure, in turn, is transferred along the supply line to the manufacturers of building materials and construction systems who need to ensure that their products meet the demands placed on them.

With five operating divisions – Purlins, Framing, Dry Lining, Cable Management and Custom Roll Forming – voestalpine Metsec is keenly aware of its responsibility to design and manufacture solutions which comply with the relevant industry regulations and standards.

In many cases it is a legal requirement, but it is also a commercial imperative which gives the company a competitive advantage in the markets in which it operates, helping it to maintain its preeminent position as market leader, as Quality and BIM Compliance Director, Alan Harris explains, “We are always seeking ways to provide our existing and prospective customers with absolute assurance in our products and the company as a whole.

“Certifications and approvals which evidence our compliance with relevant standards help to build long-lasting relationships with our customers and suppliers as well as opening markets which might be closed without them.

Key standards in the UK construction industry cover a wide variety of areas, including Building Information Modelling (BIM), health and safety, fire safety, sustainability, carbon emissions and information security.

Through constant investment in research, development and independent testing, voestalpine Metsec boasts some 21 separate certifications and approvals in these areas, many of which are not held by other systems manufacturers. These include, ISO 27001 Information Security Management, Environmental Product Declarations (EPD Hub), BIM ISO 19650 and BBA certification as well as a variety of assessments and accreditations governing fire safety, carbon emissions, energy management and health and safety.

Alan continues, “Our proactive approach ensures that we remain at the forefront of our industry, providing customers with even more reasons to choose voestalpine Metsec and the solutions we design and manufacture and, of course, giving us an advantage over the competition.”
