Our mission: 0% CO2 emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 2035
Climate change is the biggest challenge of our time. We are working to meet this challenge, setting ourselves the goal of zero carbon emissions in the Metal Forming Division by 2035. Only when everyone in the value chain does their part can we jointly achieve our common goal.
The CO2UNTDOWN TO ZERO has started!
voestalpine Metsec is committed to undertaking its activities in an efficient and financially sustainable manner in-line with environmental best practice and meeting the requirements of ISO 14001.
This will be achieved by complying with applicable laws and regulations and by reducing environmental impacts from our operations.
Environmental management through process improvements, good manufacturing, pollution control practices and employee education is a primary management objective, as well as a responsibility of every voestalpine Metsec employee. voestalpine Metsec’s aim is to provide its customers with products with the best added value but with the lowest environmental impact in terms of production, use and disposal.

Lower energy factory lighting installed - around 74% savings on original lighting

90 PIR sensors added to factory lighting to only switch on when motion is detected
Energy which is not consumed cannot create emissions—so our goal is to save energy wherever we can. We plan to achieve this by continuously improving our manufacturing processes and site infrastructures.

Electricity generation creates CO2 emissions—because electricity does not just simply come out of the power outlet. That is why we have started converting to electricity generated from renewables.

Solar Phase one (system size of 975.72kWp), equivalent to 14% of all electricity used on site

Sourcing only renewable energy is not enough for us. We also produce it directly where it is needed: at our production sites. To this end, large-scale photovoltaic systems are are installed on roofs, walls and open spaces.
Solar Phase two (system size of 999.20kWp), equivalent to 16% of all electricity used on site

We pay careful attention to where each share of our CO2 emissions originates. We also consider how we can further reduce CO2 emissions along the entire value chain.

We want to fully exploit every opportunity to reduce CO2 and so we have established a range of projects which will serve to support this mission beyond our own operations.
